EAST LYME, Conn. — Two people were found dead in a home Friday in the Niantic village, within East Lyme, after an apparent murder-suicide, the East Lyme Police Department said in a release on Saturday afternoon.
Police said that officers performed a well-being check at a residence on Billow Road at 3:30 p.m. Friday. After entering the home, officers discovered two people who were both dead.
Lorraine Decarli, 77, of Niantic was the victim of a homicide by gunshot, and the cause of death of the second individual, a 76-year-old man from Niantic, was determined to be suicide by gunshot, according to East Lyme police.
Both people were taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Farmington, where the manner and cause of death were determined, police said.
According to East Lyme police, the police department was assisted by the New London State's Attorney's Office and the State Police Eastern District Major Crime Squad while investigating.
There is no threat to the community, police said.
In an update Saturday afternoon, police said that the investigation remains active and is being conducted by the East Lyme Police Department Detective Division. Further information is expected to be released once available.
