Brush fire spreads to apartment building in Norwich: Officials

The fire was brought under control in about a half hour; the only damage to the building was found on the outside.

NORWICH, Conn. — Norwich fire crews and police responded to a brush fire that spread to an apartment building overnight Saturday.

Firefighters were called to 90 North Street just after 1 a.m. for a reported brush fire that spread to Building 5 on the complex.

Police and fire crews worked to evacuate residents of the three-story building as smoke started to fill the hallways.

The fire was under control by around 1:30 a.m.; the only damage was found on the outside of the apartment.

No one was injured and no residents were displaced.

Multiple neighboring fire departments responded to help on the scene and provide station coverage.

The Norwich Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
