NORWICH, Conn. — An ATM in Norwich was broken into and heavily damaged last weekend, and a large sum of money was stolen, according to the Norwich Police Department.
In a release on Wednesday, Norwich police said its patrol and detective divisions responded to the Eastern Savings Bank branch located at 666 West Main St. at approximately 8:50 a.m. last Sunday for reported damage to the drive through ATM.
Police said that upon arrival, they noticed the ATM had sustained heavy damage and had been compromised. A “large sum of currency” had been stolen, police said.
Investigators discovered that multiple individuals worked together to open the ATM, using a pickup truck and hand tools, as they pried open the machine and stole its contents, police said.
No additional information is available at this time, according to police, who urged any person with information regarding the incident to contact the police department. Det. Peter Karasuk is available at 860-886-5561 ext. 3155, and the police department’s anonymous tip line can be reached at 860-886-5561 ext. 4.
