EAST LYME, Conn. — Rocky Neck State Park in East Lyme is closed Saturday as firefighters battle a brush fire in the area.
The East Lyme Fire Dept. is at the park containing the brush fire with "natural water sources," East Lyme Public Safety announced on social media.
The Dept. of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) also confirmed midday Saturday that the park was closed "due to fire."
Fire officials said that East Lyme residents may see smoke in the area, particularly if they live to the east of the state park.
The cause of the fire is not known at this time.
There is an ongoing burn ban at all of Connecticut's state parks, which bans the use of outdoor grills, firepits, campfires and any kind of flames outdoors. This ban has been in effect for a week, as the environment continues to be dry with the lack of rain in the state. Many municipalities are implementing local burn bans as well.
There have been dozens of brush fires that have popped up in the state over the past two weeks, including the ongoing Hawthorne brush fire on Lamentation Mountain in Berlin.
This is a developing story.
