HARTFORD, Conn — Catholics in Connecticut have a new leader.
Archbishop Christopher Coyne, who is 65, has ministered in Boston, Indianapolis and most recently Vermont before coming to Hartford. He takes over for for retiring Archbishop Leonard Blair,
Archbishop Coyne will now lead an archdiocese that consists of 400,000 Catholics, 157 priests and 115 parishes. The Hartford Archdiocese comprises Hartford, Litchfield and New Haven counties.
Connecticut as a state has the third largest Catholic population of any. Our conversation with the new archbishop spanned a range of topics from growing and evolving the church to pervasive allegations of sexual abuse. We also talked with him about continued church closures and consolidations and if there is any update on an alleged miracle that took place at a church in Thomaston just before East of 2023.
