HARTFORD — A fire that destroyed a vacant apartment building and spread to a building next door ended up displacing three families for a total of 8 people.
Chief Reginald Freeman said 7 adults one child are being helped by the Red Cross. No one was hurt.
He said the fire was burning in the vacant boarded up 92 Nelson Street building for a while before anyone called 911. The fire lead to a partial collapse.
Freeman said the building is damaged to such a degree that the fire department can’t get arson dogs inside to determine if accelerants were used so cause remains undetermined.
The adjacent 3 family home will be examined by engineers. At least one but possible both buildings may have to be demolished.
