HARTFORD -- Police say a husband shot and killed his wife with a shotgun and then took his own life Monday afternoon.
This shooting is the city's 27th homicide of the year.
The couple has at least two children. One of them was still in school when officers had to deliver the grim news to the child.
"That's something we discussed as to who was going to go over to the school and make notification there," said Brian Foley, Deputy Chief of the Hartford Police Department. "Obviously, we want our best people there for that, the school wants their best people there and that was all provided for."
Hartford Police Major Crimes is investigating.
Neighbors and relatives were in shock saying they never knew of any issues between the husband and wife. "We loved them," said John Rios, a relative. "They were very loving people. We just don't know any motive that would drive him to do that."
