#9 Simsbury

Simsbury ranked highest, landing at spot #9. TIME looked at factors like job growth, median household income, median home price, and property taxes. Simsbury has a population of 23,767, a medium income of $115,784, job growth is 5%, median home price is $289,813 and property taxes are $7,592.

“Simsbury locals will tell you that premier public schools are the main draw to this quiet colonial village nestled in Connecticut’s Farmington Valley,” said Michaela Ross. “A recent report on international education showed that students scored above average in every test category. Almost 75% of high school seniors complete at least one college-level course, and 93% of graduates pursue higher education.”

#34 Tolland

Tolland ranks #34 on the list. With a population of 15,030, Tolland has a medium income of $103,202, job growth is 4%, median home price is $218,900 and property taxes are $6,203.

“This town 20 miles northeast of Hartford celebrated its 300th birthday this year, and you’ll see postcards from its past just about everyone you look,” writes Donna Rosato. “The Tolland Green, the town center, is on the National Register of historic places, with more than 50 buildings that date back to the late 18th and early 19th century.”

Cheshire ranks #45 on the list. With a population of 29,633, the town has a medium income of $110,738. Job growth sits at 5%, median home price is $285,375, and property taxes are $6,352.

“Residents of this verdant New England community take pride in their hometown’s history as an 18th-century farming village that by the turn of the 20th century had evolved into a manufacturing hub,” writes Susie Poppick. “Today Cheshire is known for excellent schools, healthy residents, and low unemployment—3.8%, well below the national average—as well as relatively easy commutes to nearby jobs in Danbury, New Haven, and Hartford.”

Tolland, Simsbury, and Cheshire all rank in the top 15 for highest property taxes and medium income. But, all three towns rank in the bottom 8 in terms of job growth.

The top 5 towns across the U.S are:

  • Apex, North Carolina
