NEWTOWN — Fire destroyed an abandoned mansion early Wednesday morning and the Newtown Fire Department said they are investigating it as suspicious.
The State Fire Marshal dog was brought in to sniff for accelerators but none were found.
Crews were called to the home at Castle Hill Rd. around 2 a.m. The house had no electric power and was not occupied.
The fire department is checking to see if there were any lightening strikes in the area.
The boarded up home was built in 1908 and was appraised at $1.56 million.
According to satellite imagery, the home sits well off Castle Hill Road and the property includes at least one other structure.
No one was hurt in the fire.
