ATLANTA–It’s been a discussion for months now, but General Electric still hasn’t announced it’s decision on a possible relocation of its headquarters out of Connecticut.
The company was angered by the new Connecticut budget passed earlier this year, which increased corporate taxes to a point that GE felt was unfair and not business friendly.
After the company’s very public announcement that it would consider other locations for its headquarters, several other states attempted to recruit the company.
So far, New York, Florida and Indiana have tried to woo GE–with Florida and Indiana releasing state-approved advertisements to encourage all Connecticut businesses angry about the new taxes to relocate.
Another possible location that has been rumored is Atlanta. According to the Atlanta Business Chronicle, real estate developers in the city are already drawing up proposals of what they could do for GE.
Here are two renderings of a possible GE headquarters by The Integral Group, LLC:
Now, after the controversy about the impact the new taxes might have, Gov. Dan Malloy has announced the state will offer some type of incentive package to encourage GE to stay put in Fairfield.
But Fairfield’s first selectman is still concerned. Mike Tetreau said in a pre-taped segment for Fox CT’s The Real Story, which will air this weekend, “I’m very concerned about GE, and since GE made their announcement I’ve been on the phone with GE and the state virtually every single day. My initial goal was to keep the communication open. If you remember, there was a lot of emotion, some statements going back and forth” between the governor and GE.
