BLOOMFIELD–Police are investigating a fatal accident that occurred Friday morning.
At 9:25 a.m. a three-car crash with substantial damage occurred on Blue Hills Avenue, at the intersection with Woodland Avenue.
So far, the investigation indicates that there was a red light for traffic on Blue Hills Avenue, while Woodland Avenue had a green. A vehicle driving on Woodland drove into the intersection in an attempt to turn left (northbound) on Blue Hills Avenue. While doing so a car went through the red light on Blue Hills Avenue and hit the turning car on the driver’s side door, spinning both vehicles out of control. One of those cars hit a third car that was stopped on Blue Hills Avenue heading north.
The car that was turning with the green light was driven by a 67-year-old Bloomfield man who was taken to St. Francis Hospital but later died from his injuries. The car that ran the red light was driven by a 27-year-old Granby man; he was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the stopped car wasn’t hurt.
An accident reconstruction team is investigating the accident.
