UPDATE: The Fire Marshall’s office has identified the victim as Kevin Tennyson, 50.

Tennyson’s neighbors spoke to FOX CT after the fire, but wished to remain off camera. Friends say he was a big sports fan–especially hockey–and even hosted a local public access television show in New Haven. He appeared on cruising shows and sports interviews, and he authored a book on the New Haven Nighthawks.

The office won’t have the official cause of death for a couple of weeks.

Firefighters and state police investigators were on the scene of a fatal house fire on the Hartford turnpike in North Haven early Sunday morning.

The fire broke out in the basement and a 911 call was received at 12:30 AM.

Firefighters responded quickly and were able to get the fire under control within minutes– but an adult male was found dead inside the basement.

Another male was home at the time and self evacuated with a dog.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
