BRIDGEPORT — It sounds surprising, but the Park City has been listed as one of the richest cities in America.
Bridgeport, or more accurately Fairfield county, was listed at number 2, behind San Jose and ahead of San Francisco on a list from Bloomberg Business. According to census data, Bridgeport, Stamford and Norwalk are grouped together into one reporting area. Bloomberg said the area was listed as the richest in the country up to 2011, when Silicon Valley took the top spot.
Bloomberg analyzed U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis data for 100 of the largest metropolitan areas in the country. The survey measured “gross metropolitan product” per capita for each region –that is the total output of goods and services in an area divided by the population. In San Jose, the GMP per capita was $105,482, Bridgeport’s totaled $94,349.
Hartford is ranked 13th, with a GMP per capita of $64,946.
