NEW BRITAIN--A Central Connecticut State University student has been expelled after an on-campus sexual assault.

Mark McLaughlin, a CCSU spokesman, said the incident occurred Monday and that the resident Life staff members responded, and the Office of Student Conduct began an investigation as soon as the complaint was received.

The student, who lived in on-campus housing, was said to have assaulted a visitor on campus.

The student was expelled on Friday and banned from campus.

"One of my friends said that he saw it happen. He said, he called the police immediately," said CCSU sophomore Max Satriano.

CCSU Police are investigating the incident, but McLaughlin said the university will not release his name, age, or year of study due to the ongoing police investigation.

No arrest has been made.

CCSU saw two forcible sex offenses reported in 2012, that number more than doubled in 2013 to 5, but declined to one rape reported on campus in 2014, according to CCSU's 2015 Clery Act Report, which by law colleges and universities must disclose statistics regarding sexual violence on campus.

"It's definitely hard to believe that they can just happen anywhere on our campus," said Mike Apple, CCSU Freshman.
