Missing since October 10th, 2003 Joyvaline Martinez was last seen in East Hartford.
In September 2007, skeletal remains of three females were found in the woods, behind a strip mall, near New Britain road and Route 9. Martinez’s mother provided a DNA sample at that time. It wasn't until September 2013 that New Britain police were able to identify one of the "Jane Doe's" as Joyvaline Martinez after the state’s forensic lab received a mitochondrial DNA hit.
One year later, in September 2014 New Britain police released information believing that, “The deaths of all three women were classified as homicides and our investigation has revealed that these murders were committed by the same offender at different times,” said New Britain Police Chief James Wardwell.
