February 14th, 1993, Valentine’s Day, Hartford Police were called to the address of 70 Norwich Street in the Dutch Point Housing Project on the report of a dead man in a parked vehicle. When Police arrived, they found a white male dead in the passenger seat of a blue Mercury Marquis with Maine Registration of 6046AX. The male was later identified as Thomas Myers, 5-13-1955, age 37. Myers was stabbed once in the chest on his left side. He was slumped over in the passenger seat of the vehicle and appeared to be asleep. Blood was visible on his forehead and right side of his face and there was a large blood stain underneath his jacket on the left side of his chest.
In the investigation of the Myers murder, Hartford Police interviewed dozens of people as part of their investigation. Some were considered suspects or persons of interest and others provided information to the police about what they knew. Many people lied to police during the course of the investigation and sent police off in different directions for their investigation.
During the investigation it became known to police that Thomas Myers had been to the Norwich Street area before to purchase drugs. Police received one story that Myers had robbed a drug dealer of one ounce of cocaine and fled the scene earlier in the month of February. When he returned later to buy more drugs, the dealers exacted revenge for his earlier theft by stabbing and killing him.
The investigation centered on drug users, drug sellers and prostitutes as suspects but not enough information was received to proceed with an arrest. Twenty one years later, Hartford police are still searching for answers.
