PERLAND, Tx. – Civlian searchers have been told by police to stand down, after a Connecticut boy went missing while visiting  his uncle, retired basketball player Marcus Camby, in Texas.

The Pearland Police Department said they were looking for a 9-year-old autistic child that went missing. Marcus McGhee has been missing from a residence in the area since Thursday afternoon. Police said Marcus was last seen wearing a black T-shirt with a green Nike swoosh and gray and black sweat pants.

The Fox station in Houston said he was visiting from Connecticut. The Houston Chronicle talked to someone in the home who confirmed Marcus was retired NBA player Marcus Camby’s nephew.  Camby grew up in Hartford and started in the NBA in 1996 after playing three seasons at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

Just after 6 p.m. EST, police told civilian searchers to stand down and discouraged residents from searching on their own.
