HARTFORD — The Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles is upgrading its customer-service and computer systems in February and March, which means certain branches will be closed for a week at a time.
The DMV says that the upgrade will allow for more online services like improved registration renewal, reprinting registration certificates, or plate ordering. According to the DMV, the department’s computer systems are 40 to 50 years old.
The closing schedule is as follows:
Feb. 17 – Feb. 20 — Bridgeport and Norwalk offices, and the Stamford photo license center (which is by appointment only.)
Feb. 24 – Feb. 27 — New Britain and Enfield
March 3 – March 6 — Willimantic, Norwich and Putnam
March 10 – March 13 — Waterbury, Danbury and Winsted
March 17 – March 20 — Hamden and Old Saybrook
March 24 – March 27 — Wethersfield
The offices will be open for a half-day on Saturdays as normal. Branches are usually already closed on Mondays.
DMV customers should expect delays at branch offices because of overflow. You can check branch wait times here.
Eligible drivers who need to renew vehicle registrations are urged to do so by mail or online.
AAA offices will also be open for license renewals.
