HARTFORD – The defense attorney for Tiffany Stevens, a Bloomfield woman accused of hiring someone to kill her ex-husband, Eric Stevens, called Eric as a witness on Thursday.
Attorney Hubert Santos spent much of the morning asking Eric Stevens about alleged threatening emails he sent to Tiffany Stevens, who faces a charge of attempted murder. Eric admitted to sending some of them, but could not recall all of their contents.
"Did you call her trash?” Santos asked Stevens.
“In 2009, I believe I did,” he replied.
Stevens also admitted to threatening to release a sex tape of Tiffany and posting her phone number on craigslist with a solicitation for sex.
"You call this number and a woman will provide you with sex?” Santos asked.
“In 2008, you are correct,” Stevens said.
Santos alleged that Stevens had a gambling addiction, which led him to scheme to take money from Tiffany’s family. Stevens repeatedly denied that allegation. He did admit to being kidnapped and said that two of his cars exploded but would not agree with Santos that the incidents were related to debts owed to “bookies.”
When asked about $50 million in holdings that he reportedly told police were attached to the custody of their 9-year-old daughter, Stevens denied that he said that or that the money existed.
According to her arrest warrant, Tiffany Stevens paid handyman John McDaid $5,000 to kill Eric Stevens.
McDaid testified that he recorded Tiffany Stevens while she was using Percocet at his girlfriend’s apartment. During that conversation, Stevens allegedly asked McDaid to kill Eric Stevens once again. Afterwards, McDaid said he brought the recording to Eric Stevens.
