BRIDGEPORT — A Bridgeport woman is expected in court Monday, after being charged with shooting her boyfriend to death on Sunday morning.

According to police, Griselle Pizarro, 36, of Bridgeport, was in a light-colored pick-up truck with her boyfriend, 33 year old Jacob Lopez, when she shot him in the chest.

Police responded to the 200 block of Huntington Turnpike around 1:17 a.m. where they located Lopez outside of the pick-up truck. Lopez was taken to Bridgeport Hospital where he died shortly before 6:00 a.m.

While on his way to the hospital, Lopez made a statement saying “Griselle shot me.”

Detectives identified the suspect as Pizarro. They then located her at her Evers Court home.

During an interview at police headquarters, Pizarro acknowledged that she shot her boyfriend. She stated that her and Lopez were talking in the pick-up truck when Lopez physically assaulted her.

She claimed that during the assault she took a handgun out of her purse and fired several shots. She then fled on foot to her home, where police later located her.

Police recovered a .40-caliber handgun that they believe was used in the shooting.

“We take all gun violence very seriously, and this remains a very active investigation. The priority always is keeping our kids and families safe,” said Police Chief Joseph L. Gaudett Jr.

Gaudett Jr. also explained that this investigation doesn’t end with an arrest.

Pizarro is charged with murder and unlawful discharge of a firearm.
