HARTFORD–The Yard Goats’ stadium is rounding first base, just months after construction started.
The fits beams for the new Dunkin’ Donuts Park at Downtown North were erected on Tuesday, a milestone in the controversial construction project.
“This is a baseball stadium that will serve as a catalyst for the other developments that will follow,” said Mayor Pedro Segarra. “I believe in this project and I believe in Downtown North.”
The $56 million stadium began construction in February, and soon construction will start on the market, shops and apartments expected to go up as part of the Downtown North project.
The mayor promised the stadium will be done in time for the first game next year. “On April 7 we will be pitching here for the first time,” Segarra said.
He also said the project is on budget, with no major changes to the original blue prints.
