NEW HAVEN – Police said one person was killed and another seriously injured in an early morning car crash.
Police said Naika Rosa-Rosa, 20, of Meriden lost control of a Saturn Aura XE and struck a tree around 3 a.m. at an intersection near the Episcopal Church of St. Paul and St. James in the area of Chapel and Olive streets.
Rosa-Rosa died at the scene. A passenger, Wandaliz Valle-Quinonez, 34, of Middletown, suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries and was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital.
Police said speed and weather appear to have been factors in the crash.
Police said the vehicle was trying to elude New Haven Police after attempting a traffic stop before the crash.
