EAST HAMPTON - A traffic accident at the corner of West High and Maple streets in East Hampton has put a police officer in the hospital.
The officer was taken by LifeStar to Hartford Hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a motor vehicle.
The officer is alert and conscious and being evaluated at Hartford Hospital.
The officer was directing traffic around an Eversource crew who were working on a utility pole when a Toyota RAV4 SUV drove through the intersection and struck the officer.
The officer was carried through the intersection, beyond the cross walk and thrown to the ground by the stop sign.
The accident remains under investigation. Police are not releasing the officer’s identity at this time
