HARTFORD--Abdul-Rahmaan Muhammad is the creator of Ice Cream for a Dream, a unique philanthropic project in Hartford.

Muhammad provides kids and adults with free ice cream in exchange for hearing about their dreams. His truck stops at local events and community centers around Connecticut.

"A little kid will come up to the truck and say something like, 'I want to help other people' or 'I want to make Hartford better,'" said Muhammad. "Those are my favorite kind of dreams."

Ice Cream for a Dream hands out roughly 10,000 ice cream sandwiches each year since it was created four years ago.

"What I'm hoping is that by asking them and showing them all the different types of dreams they can have, it inspires them to do wonderful and amazing things in their lives," said Muhammad.

Muhammad hopes by simply asking, "What is your dream?" he can plant a small seed in the minds of young kids.

"I just want them to be able to dream bigger, to be able to see that there's so much more that they can have in this life and so much more that they can do," said Muhammad.

The Ice Cream for a Dream truck will be making two stops in Hartford on Friday: at the Martin Luther King School at 11:30 a.m. and the Albany Avenue branch of the library at 1 p.m.
