NEW BRITAIN–Riccardo Ingram may be best known for his time in the major league playing for the Detroit Tigers and the Minnesota Twins as an outfielder from 1987 until 1995, but first appeared on the Connecticut scene in 2003 when he was hired as the hitting coach for the New Britain Rock Cats.
He stayed with the team until 2007, though he managed the club for the 2006-2007 season instead of coaching.
Before his time in New Britain Ingram coached other Twins minor league teams, including ones in Fort Wayne, Quad City and Fort Meyers. In 2007 he was promoted from the Rock Cats to be the hitting coach for the Rochester Red Wings.
Ingram beat brain cancer once before, but it left him off the field for 12 months.
Jeff Dooley, the long-time voice of the Rock Cats, was there for both of Ingram’s tours of duty, and he spoke to Fox CT about his friend who died on Wednesday at age 48.
