Police said back in April, a 17-year-old female reported that she went out to dinner with him. She was a student at Shelton High School and Perduta was a teacher there at the time. The victim says Perduta asked about their relationship status during dinner and made her uncomfortable.
She also told police that after dinner, he tried to kiss her on the lips, but she moved her head and the kiss landed on her forehead.
A spokesperson for the school system says Perduta was put on paid administrative leave in April and resigned from his position in May.
He was charged with disorderly conduct and released on $500 bond. Perduta is due in court in Derby later this month.
Superintendent of Shelton Public Schools released a statement on Perduta’s arrest:
“The moment that we were notified that George Perduta was seen out with a student, last April, the proper authorities and organizations were contacted. The following day, April 10, 2015, Mr. Perduta was immediately put on paid administrative leave pending an ongoing investigation. On May 8, 2015, Mr. Perduta resigned from his teaching position at Shelton Public Schools.”
