DERBY -- Derby police said they are investigating a fatal shooting that took place at around 1:50 a.m. Friday morning.
Police say that 911 callers reported gunshots heard in the area. When officers arrived, they found an unresponsive 21-year-old male on Anson Street with gunshot wounds.
EMS responded and took the victim to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead. Police identify him as Jajuan Benavides.
The shooting took place in a residential neighborhood with homes and apartment buildings intermixed.
Connecticut State Police major crimes is assisting Derby Police with the investigation.
