SOUTH WINDSOR – DEEP, South Windsor police and fire officials responded to Smith Street early Friday afternoon after a #2 home heating oil delivery truck, owned by Teddy’s Oil in Manchester, overturned.
The engine and saddle tanks leaked a small amount of fuel, but according to police, the main tank and its 1700 gallons was intact. Teddy’s hired an environmental contractor to recover oil and conduct a cleanup under the supervision of DEEP Emergency Response personnel, while SWPD secured the dome cover to prevent further leakage.
Environmental Service Inc. of South Windsor pumped out the truck, which was then towed by Tolland Auto. All impacted soils will be excavated by the environmental contractor, and a boom was placed in the nearest downstream basin to collect any fuel that makes it way into the storm drain system.
The truck rolled over into a cul-de-sac at the end of Smith St. Smith St. is located near Pleasant Valley rd. and Buckland Rd. near the Evergreen Sq. shopping area in South Windsor. The accident remains under investigation by the SWPD Traffic Unit.
The driver was not seriously hurt, but did go to a hospital for an exam.
