GROTON -- A Griswold man is facing several charges, including Operating Under the Influence of Alcohol or Drugs, in connection with a crash that killed his 4-year-old daughter on Halloween.
David Ali, 28, turned himself into police Tuesday morning.
On Monday, October 31, around 5:20 p.m., emergency responders were called to a two-car crash on the Gold Star Highway (Route 184) in Groton. Police said a BMW driven by Kendall Metcalf, 20, of North Stonington was traveling eastbound when Ali took a left turn cutting her off. Metcalf then slammed into Ali, flipped her car over.
Ali and the girl's mother, Cheryl Mackin, both suffered non-life threatening injures. But, 4-year-old Delilah Ali was flown to Yale-New Haven Hospital with life threatening injuries. She died the next day.
At the time of the crash, FOX 61 spoke to Delilah’s aunt, Crystal Mackin, who said the family was headed to a Halloween pizza party at her grandmother’s house just a few miles away when the crash occurred. The pizza party was an annual tradition for the family.
Ali faces several charges, including manslaughter, operating under the influence of alcohol/drugs, risk of injury to a minor, reckless endangerment, and two counts of assault.
He is being held on $250,000 bond and will appear in New London court on Tuesday.
