HARTFORD - Guns were turned in to the Hartford Police Department as part of a gun buyback Saturday.
Two dozen guns were taken off the street and are now in the hands of the police.
The weapons were turned in at the Johnson Stewart Community Center for gift cards, which were given out in exchange for working firearms.
Handguns were bought back for a $200 gift card, and shotguns and rifles for a $50 gift card.
Over 600 people die nationwide every week as a result of gun violence and police said events like this help curb those statistics.
