HARTFORD -- Hartford Police say a city man was shot and killed last night.
According to police, the shooting happened around 1 a.m. They were notified by the city's ShotSpotter system to rounds fired in the area of 114 Mather Street, in the Clay Arsenal neighborhood. When they arrived they found 55-year-old Melvin Baskerville in the rear stairwell of the building. He had been shot multiple times. Baskerville lived down the street at 79-81 Mather Street.
Despite emergency surgery at St. Francis Hospital, Baskerville died from his wounds.
The Major Crimes Division is investigating; at this time there is no word on any suspect.
