Hartford police are still looking for a suspect who they say shot and killed a Hartford woman Wednesday night.
Police said shotspotter technology alerted them to five shots fired on Enfield Street just before 9:15 p.m. Shortly after, police said they received a call saying a woman had been shot.
“Officers responded, found a female in the street,” said Hartford Deputy Chief of Police Brian Foley.
Police identified the woman as 44-year-old Lydia Tirillo of Hartford. When officers responded they said they found her shot several times in the torso and leg. She was taken to St. Francis Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
“Shot multiple times, generally something like that is a targeted situation,” said Foley. “Some of the officers who arrived on scene recognized her, know her,” said Foley.
Court records stateTirillo had several run-ins with the law, some charges dating back to 2008. This also is not the first time there has been crime in the area either. Police said they have responded to incidents on Enfield Street in the past.
Police are hoping area surveillance video will help them determine who is responsible. Meanwhile, community activists plea for an end to violence.
“People in the community are dying every day,” said Reverend Henry Brown. “We need to do something to change that perception, and the only way we are going to do that is that people got to demand changes… the people that have been affected by this stuff, the people that sit behind closed doors, and close the door when these types of things happen, they got to stand up and say enough is enough, we got to change this.”
Tirillo’s death now marks the eighth homicide in Hartford in 2018. Police are urging anyone with anyone to contact them, or to submit anonymous tips online.
