Kraft Singles is the product at the center of a controversial new labeling from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
The individually wrapped slices of processed cheese have just received the new ‘Kids Eat Right’ marking- seal of approval from the Academy to help families make healthier food choices.
According to AND, the campaign is dedicated to supporting the efforts of the White House to end childhood obesity.
Kraft is a well known sponsor of the Academy, and Kraft Singles is the first food to get the new marking. That’s raising concern and skepticism on Twitter.
The FDA prohibits Kraft from labeling the item as cheese, because the wording indicates that the product is made with at least 51% real cheese.
In a recent press release AND said it’s standing behind its decision. Maintaining that there’s no underhanded deal behind the move.
