WATERBURY -- A Waterbury police officer and another man are dead following an apparent murder-suicide in a home on Marion Avenue Wednesday morning.
Connecticut State Police said they have assumed the investigation and called it an "isolated shooting incident," adding there is no threat to the public.
"The extent of their relationship is under investigation," State Police Trooper Kelly Grant said.
"This morning at about 5 a.m. Waterbury Police were called to 54 Marion Avenue on a disturbance," Waterbury Deputy Chief of Police Fernando Spagnolo. "The States Attorney and State Police are conducting an active and ongoing death investigation."
Police closed Marion Avenue and a portion of Windsor Street in the area, but have since cleared the scene.
Chief Vernon Riddick said it has been a difficult time for the Waterbury Police Department. They lost another officer just 13 months ago.
"It's difficult for us, for the victim. Our prayers and concerns go out to him and his family," Riddick said.
