PEARL HARBOR, Hawaii --  Connecticut students traveled a long way to honor those that gave their lives in service to this country.

Members of the Lyme-Old Lyme High School band and chorus were invited to perform on the pier of the USS Missouri in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, on Wednesday, the 75th anniversary of the attack that led the United States into World War II. The Nutmeggers joined students from around the country to honor both those who died, and the veterans who survived and made the long journey.

The USS Missouri was part of the battles of Iwo Jima nad Okinawa, and it is the ship on which the Allied and Axis powers signed the documents to formally end WWII. It is now a permanent museum in the harbor.

The 100 Lyme-Old Lyme students invited to participate in the momentous event prepared for a year, the school said.
