A North Haven man was in court Wednesday accused of riding an uninsured, unregistered motorcycle outfitted to look like a real police vehicle.

Nicholas Ferrucci, 21, of  North Haven, was charged with second degree reckless endangerment, reckless driving, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, operating without insurance, traffic control signal violation and unauthorized lights and flashing lights.

Man Accused Of Operating A Fake Police Motorcycle

Police said an officer observed a motorcycle, with lights and sirens operating and “Police” written on the front, rear and sides, go through a red light at the intersection of Whitney Avenue and Washington Avenue. The officer observed the motorcycle, with lights flashing, head up James Street. The officer stopped the Ferrucci at Legion Field.

Police said in a statement, “Investigation revealed that Ferrucci’s motorcycle was unregistered and uninsured. Further investigation revealed that the motorcycle was equipped with a siren, red/blue LED emergency warning lights and a digital camera which was mounted on the handle bars. Officers learned that Ferrucci’s actions nearly caused 2 motor vehicle accidents.”

Ferrucci appeared in court Wednesday

Hamden police are investigating whether there is a connection between this incident and other reports of an individual with a fake police motorcycle conducting motor vehicle stops .
