HARTFORD — A 50-year-old Connecticut man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for the death of his wife, who was found dead of a skull fracture inside their home in May 2014.
The Hartford Courant reports that John Dewees Jr., of Enfield, was sentenced Wednesday in a Hartford Superior Court. Dewees pleaded guilty in April to manslaughter and cruelty to persons.
Prosecutors say 45-year-old Anja Dewees, who was chronically ill, suffered a severe head injury when she was thrown into a bathtub after soiling herself.
Prosecutors argued that Dewees abused his wife. He told police he had been caring for her for about four years.
His attorney told the judge that there were no prior reports of abuse to police or by medical providers who treated her.
