MILFORD -- A man is using his truck and social media to try to help his father get a kidney transplant.
John Krusinski posted this photo to Facebook on Tuesday with "Donor needed-- my father needs a kidney" written on his truck. He had been driving around with the message on his Chevy Silverado for about a month beforehand.
"I work in Windsor Locks. I live in New Britain. I'm from Milford. I drive it back and forth all the time. I'm passing hundreds of cars daily, so people are seeing it," said Krusinski, who told us he didn't get many responses from the info written on his truck until he also posted the photo on Facebook.
The message on the truck was a total surprise to his father, Richard Kusinski. He is on the National Kidney Registry's waitlist, but has been told the wait time for a transplant is about three to four years.
"I just thought that was crazy. I didn't want to have to wait that long," said John Kusinski. "I put it on here in the hopes that 'three to four years' would turn into a few months, if anything."
Krusinksi also provided the blood type needed, his email, john_krusinski@yahoo.com, and cell phone number 203-815-7318, for anyone interested in helping.
His goal is for his father to be healthy in time for his sister's wedding this September.
Since Krusinski put up the picture on Tuesday the post has been shared more than 500 times. Many people commented in the post about their own experiences with organ donation and wishing the father and son good luck.
Richard Kusinski said, "It's a real nice, warm feeling. There's people out there, people we know and people that I don't know, who have contacted us."
"We're really hoping it all works out," he said.
Also, in response to seeing our post about Krusinski, FOX 61 viewer Erica said that she too needs a kidney and she too has been advertising her plea on her own vehicle.
