HARTFORD — Connecticut’s second-highest court has rejected the appeal of a man whose murder conviction was reinstated after he was freed from prison.
The state Appellate Court ruled Tuesday against 53-year-old George Gould. Gould and Ronald Taylor were freed in 2010 after serving 16 years in prison for a 1993 New Haven murder, after a key prosecution witness recanted and a judge declared them victims of “manifest injustice.”
The state Supreme Court reinstated their convictions in 2011 and ordered a new appeal trial. Gould was sent back to prison and appealed to the Appellate Court after losing the new trial. Taylor died of cancer in 2011.
Last year, a private investigator was sentenced to four years in prison for bribing the prosecution witness into recanting her testimony against Gould and Taylor.
