MYSTIC — The replica of the ship that brought the Pilgrims to the New World in 1620 has arrived in Connecticut for maintenance and repairs.
Mystic Seaport says the Mayflower II arrived there Saturday afternoon.
The ship left Plimoth Plantation in Plymouth, Massachusetts on Tuesday.
It then stayed in New Bedford, Massachusetts to wait for favorable weather.
The Mayflower II was built in 1957. The 106-foot ship was towed to Mystic by a tug.
The seaport says it was a smooth trip.
In Connecticut, shipwrights and maritime artisans will replace the half-deck area and work on the tween deck and topmast rigging.
Plimoth Plantation and Mystic Seaport expect to plan opportunities for the public to see the ship over the winter.
The Mayflower II will return to Plymouth in the spring.
