MONROE – After beginning training on Dec. 1, 2014 with his handler, Officer John McAulay and completing his course on Jan. 30, K9 Murphy was officially sworn into the Monroe Police Department on Monday, Feb. 9.

Murphy is an 18 month old, purebred German Shepherd from Hungary, trained as a multi- purpose police dog certified in narcotics detection, tracking, building searches, evidence retrieval, apprehension, and protection, and certified through the North American Police Work Dog Association and Connecticut Police Work Dog Association.

Special thanks go to the AKC Reunite Program, which donated the funds to purchase and train Murphy through grants and individual contributions from the AKC affiliate Trap Falls Kennel Fund.  Murphy was purchased and trained through Renbar Kennels in New Milford, Connecticut.  The Sprint For Monroe Committee also donated funds to support the canine team.
