MILFORD–There are two new members of the Milford Police Department, and while they may not be human, they are certainly welcome additions.

Zar and Zeus are the latest K-9s to join the force. Zar is partnered with Officer Sean Owens, while Zeus and Emily Covelli are paired together. The two sets finished a 14-week training program with the Connecticut State Police’s Training Unit 170th Patrol Dog Training Troop. The teams had classroom and practical training in tracking suspects and missing people, obedience, building searches, evidence robbery and handler protection.

Officer Owens was give the academic award for the highest grade point average in the graduating class.

In all, the Milford Police K-9 program has three patrol divison teams, including the two new teams and a third team of Officer Sean Degnan and Diesel. There is also a narcotics division K-9 team in Milford made up of Detective Dennis Broderick and cedar.
