NEW HAVEN -- More than 6,000 runners hit the streets of the Elm City Monday morning for the 39th annual New Haven road race. It's a Labor Day tradition that draws thousands of runners and spectators every year.
The event started and finished at the New Haven Green.
There were several different races which include kids, adults, first-time runners and even some U.S. Olympians.
The Kids Fun Run kicked everything off at 8:15 a.m. followed by the 20K and half marathon at 8:40 a.m. The 5K got started a short time later.
The 20K event has once again been selected to host the U.S. Men's and Women's National Championship. There were many past champions and some Olympic runners competing in the race. It marked the 25th consecutive year a national championship race was held in New Haven. It's also the nation's largest 20K race.
