DANBURY - Connecticut State Police say a Danbury police officer fired his gun at a knife-wielding suspect, killing him and seriously wounding the suspect's female relative last night.
Police repsonded about 9:30 pm to a senior housing complex called 'The Glen' on Memorial Drive after a call about a suspicious person. They saw a white male with a knife walking around the property.
State police say officers confronted the man, and then one deployed his taser on the suspect, but it was ineffective. Shortly after that, another Danbury officer fired multiple rounds at the man, striking him at least once. A female tenant who was a relative of the man was also shot.
Both people were taken to Danbury Hospital. The man was pronounced dead, and the female is listed in critical-but-stable condition.
At the request of the Danbury State’s Attorney’s Office the Connecticut State Police Western District Major Crime is investigating the use of force incident.
