WATERBURY -- One woman is dead and another one is injured after an early morning shooting.
The incident took place around 3 a.m. on Walnut Avenue.
“When our officers arrived there, we found two victims in that location, both females. One was a 30-year-old Hispanic female that suffered a gunshot wound to the head. The second victim was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital with a gunshot wound to the stomach. She is in stable condition right now,” said Chief Fred Spagnolo, from the Waterbury Police Department.
Police said it’s unclear if the two women are related. Investigators have not identified the second victim, but said the 30-year-old is Fransua Guzman. Guzman died later in the hospital.
“She’s like my daughter, she lived with me when she was a little girl,” said Alicia Muñoz, Fransua’s aunt.
Wednesday morning, family and friends set up a memorial in her honor.
Muñoz said Fransua was a dedicated mother of four, and planned on visiting her Wednesday while she was on a business trip to Connecticut. Unfortunately, she couldn’t say one last goodbye.
Family and friends remember her as a strong and loving woman.
As of Wednesday afternoon, Waterbury Police Department have not made any arrests, but do have a few leads. Investigators believe this is an isolated incident.
