NEW LONDON -- A Connecticut College student was killed in a hit and run accident Friday morning on a dangerous road in front of the campus.

Police and fire crews responded to the report of an unresponsive person around 2 a.m. in front of Connecticut College on Mohegan Avenue Parkway, Rt. 32.

College officials said Anique Ashraf, a third-year student from Lahore, Pakistan was pronounced dead at a hospital. Ashraf was a member of the Class of 2017.

Police said the vehicle that hit the man left the scene. Police located the suspected Chrysler 200 and have it in custody in the impound garage. A police officer spotted the car early Friday morning on his way home in Waterford.

Police say they know who was operating the car, but no arrests have been made.

Police said the owner of the vehicle is being cooperative but they do not expect to make any arrests nor file charges in connection with incident Friday.

Ashraf was taken to Lawrence and Memorial Hospital for serious injuries and was later pronounced dead.

Katherine Bergeron, President of Connecticut College sent a message to the college community about Ashraf.

A scholar in our Toor Cummings Center for International Studies and the Liberal Arts, and a double major in art and international relations, Anique was a leader in the LGBTQ community on campus. He was a gifted writer with a compelling voice, who captured many colorful and poignant aspects of life at Connecticut College in his pieces for the blog “The Experience.” He also helped many students in his work as a tutor in the Roth Writing Center. An artist who worked in several different media, Anique spent this past summer as an intern at the Leslie Lohman Gallery of Gay and Lesbian Art in New York City. He was a person with deeply held convictions who lived life to its fullest. We mourn the loss of this gifted young life, and send our deepest condolences to Anique’s family and to his many close friends in our community.
