SOUTH WINDSOR- Police investigating a double stabbing in the area of Route 5 Tuesday night, have a man in custody in connection with the crime.
Police were called to the area of Route 5 near the East Hartford town line around 11:30 p.m after receiving two consecutive calls about victims with multiple stab wounds. One victim, a 19-year-old male called 911 from the Irving Gas Station at 84 John Fitch Blvd. and the other victim, a 21-year-old female was found down the road near the I-291 entrance. A passerby called 911.
Police said Frederick Hazard, 19 of West Hartford, and Dianihtza Rivera-Soto, 21 of Hartford, were being treated at Hartford Hospital. Hazard was listed in critical condition but was able to talk with investigators for a short time. Rivera-Soto’s condition is not known. Police said both suffered multiple stab wounds.
Police believe Frederick Hazard is the cousin of Brewster while Rivera-Soto and Brewster have a child in common. The victims are not believed to have lived in the Speilman Road home with Brewster. The child was not present at the time of the assault.
Police will return to Hartford Hospital on Thursday and attempt to further interview each of the victims to piece together more of what happened on Tuesday night.
Police said Brewster was taken to Manchester Memorial Hospital for treatment of lacerations and exposure. Police said he was in custody and charges will be forthcoming.
Police were able to trace blood from the two crimes scene to a house at 108 Speilman Road. Police believe the weapons used in the stabbing are in the home and that no one else was involved.
East Hartford Police and State Police helped with searching for a suspect. Early Wednesday, police were asking for the public’s help looking for the suspect.
The State Police Major Crimes Unit is assisting South Windsor police with processing the crime scene and collecting evidence.
