The playground was built in Watertown in honor of the Sandy Hook Elementary School principal Dawn Hochsprung.
Hundreds of people came out for the ceremony.
Underneath a brilliant blue sky on this crisp October afternoon -- hundreds gathered at veteran's memorial park in Watertown for the final dedication ceremony of a playground built in honor of one of the victims of the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School.
This one is dedicated to Hochsprung who gave her life to save her students on that December morning.
Carlos Soto, the father of Victoria Soto, “The mother was the one who hired my daughter to be a school teacher....and that made me very happy...today, they're all in heaven looking down at us, seeing this beautiful thing that we have done, together.”
The organizers of this project, the Where Angels Play Foundation, meticulously worked on the design and details of this playground. It was inspired by Hochsprung's personality.
Erica Lafferty, the daughter of Dawn Hochsprung, said, “ The playground is absolutely amazing and incorporated everything about my mom from her love of sailing to her love of standard poodle to playing pirates on her boat with my nieces and nephews...it couldn't be better if my mom designed it herself.”
This playground is 26th, they were built around New Jersey, New York, and Connecticut.
as the ceremony went on, a plane flew by with the words Hochsprung always started the school day with, be nice to each other. It's all that matters.
And on this afternoon it was evident, that while the playgrounds are now, the memories of the people who inspired them will never be forgotten.
Soto said, “Forever, we will remember them. Every time the kids are playing and in the playground...the parents and the angels will be up there laughing...and enjoying it.”
