WOODBRIDGE — Traffic was backed up on the Wilbur Cross Parkway in Woodbridge due to a police investigation into an untimely death. Connecticut State Police said a car may have hit a pedestrian sometime overnight.
Route 15 Southbound was closed between Exits 59 and 58 and the state Department of Transportation was on scene to assist with traffic.
The Hartford Courant reports that as cars stopped, southbound lanes of the Wilbur Cross Parkway resembled a parking lot. Frustrated motorists got out of their cars and walked around.
Police were called to the parkway just after 8:30 a.m. after DOT workers found what appeared to be a body on the side of the road near Exit 59 Southbound.
Traffic was backed up into Hamden heading south and drivers were asked to avoid the area and to expect delays. The highway was shut down for about 6 hours beginning at 9 a.m.
The New Haven Register reports it was not immediately clear if police found indications of the car or driver in the area or if they had information about the victim’s identity.
This investigation is ongoing and anybody with information is asked to call state police at 203-393-4200.
