HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — State lawmakers will hear testimony on the latest proposal to allow the Connecticut Lottery Corporation to offer keno.

A public hearing was planned Wednesday on the bill, which is similar to an agreement ultimately repealed last year by the General Assembly.

The lottery supports the legislation. President Anne Noble said keno would help diversify the lottery’s portfolio and protect its revenue stream to the state budget. Currently, the neighboring states of Rhode Island, Massachusetts and New York offer keno, a lottery game where numbers are typically drawn every four minutes.

Rep. Jeffrey Berger, co-chairman of the Finance Revenue and Bonding Committee, said lawmakers should not pass a bill allowing the state’s two tribes to open a satellite casino to combat competition without allowing the lottery to start offering keno.
